The Lady Grey Arts Academy Code of Conduct establishes a foundation for a positive learning environment that prioritizes discipline, respect, and academic achievement.
Expectations for Learners:
- Respectful and Responsible: Learners are expected to treat teachers, staff, classmates, visitors, and school property with respect, valuing diversity and religious beliefs. They are responsible for their attendance, punctuality, academic performance, and following instructions while actively participating in class.
- Safety and Appearance: Following safety rules in classrooms, labs, during performances, and on outings is crucial. Learners must report emergencies or threats to staff immediately. The code also outlines proper uniform attire and adherence to personal appearance rules.
- Appropriate Behavior: This extends to behaving appropriately in class, during transitions between classes, and at school functions. Disruptive behavior, noise, and littering are discouraged. Electronic devices like cell phones, earphones/pods are forbidden in classrooms and will be confiscated if found.
- Arts Activities: Participation in arts activities and adhering to the schedule is mandatory for students enrolled in arts programs.
Maintaining a Positive Environment:
The code outlines a fair and transparent disciplinary system to address unacceptable behavior, aiming to educate learners and prevent repeat offenses. This includes a Record of Misconduct that documents transgressions and different tiers of consequences depending on the severity of the offense. Consequences may range from time-out desks for disruptive behavior to community service for minor infractions. Serious offenses like possession of weapons or drugs, violence, bullying, or vandalism can lead to suspension or even expulsion after a fair hearing and due process.
Communication and Transparency:
The Lady Grey Arts Academy prioritizes transparency by ensuring the code is readily available to learners. It’s also explained at the start of the school year and regularly discussed in classrooms. Additionally, the code is available upon request to anyone in the school community. This comprehensive approach ensures everyone is aware of the expectations and consequences, fostering a more positive and productive learning environment for all.
