A Gift of Color and Talent
At Lady Grey Arts Academy, we believe that every corner of our campus should reflect the creativity and passion that our students and staff bring to the classroom every day. Recently, our music department received a vibrant transformation that perfectly captures the “harmony” of our school spirit.
A Vision Brought to Life
This beautiful project was born from the vision of Mrs. Marilena Jordaan. Wanting to create an inspiring, joyful environment for our music students, Marilena initiated the idea of a mural that would reflect the soul of the academy. Demonstrating her immense dedication to the school, she also personally funded the entire project, covering the costs of all materials and labor.
A Gift of Color and Talent
To bring this vision to life, we turned to our very own Mrs. Nellie von Solms, one of our dedicated Grade 2 educators. While Nellie spends her days shaping the minds of our foundation phase learners, she is also a gifted artist.
The resulting masterpiece turns a plain exterior wall into a whimsical musical staff where notes dance among bright, blooming flowers—a perfect invitation for students to come and create.

The mural was recently celebrated by the team who brings these painted notes to life. Pictured in front of the new artwork are (from left to right): Mrs. Marilena Jordaan (the visionary behind the project), Mrs. Nellie van Solms (the artist), Mrs. Karen Vorster, and Mrs. Mariette Pitout.
A Legacy of Musical Excellence
This mural serves as a tribute to the dedication of our music department. At LGAA, music is a vital part of our identity. We offer music as a formal subject and provide specialized individual lessons in:
- Keyboard & Woodwinds: Piano, Recorder, Flute, Clarinet, and Saxophone.
- Brass: Trumpet and Trombone.
- Strings: Violin.
- Voice: Individual Singing lessons.
