From the Practice Rooms of Lady Grey to the Graduation Stage: The Inspiring Journey of Inga Mbete
At Lady Grey Arts Academy, we take immense pride in watching our learners find their voices and follow their passions long after they walk across our stage for the last time. Today, we have a very special success story to share from our Class of 2019: the talented Inga Mbete.
Many of our staff and older learners will remember Inga as a dedicated and vibrant presence in our music department. With a trombone in hand and a commitment to her craft, Inga spent her high school years mastering the complexities of music theory and performance. Her hard work as a music-subject learner laid a foundation that has now culminated in a major academic milestone.
We are thrilled to announce that Inga recently graduated with her Bachelor of Music (BMus) Honours from the University of Fort Hare.

But for Inga, the music hasn’t stopped at the graduation ceremony. We are equally proud to share that she has come full circle and is currently sharing her passion as a music teacher. By stepping into the classroom, Inga is now helping to shape the next generation of South African musicians, passing on the discipline, technique, and joy of music that she first nurtured right here at the Academy.
Inga recently reached out to her former teacher, Mrs. Vorster, to share the news of her success. This connection reminds us all of the lasting bond between our educators and their students.
“Seeing an Alumna like Inga succeed is what we strive for,” says the Academy. “She is a testament to what can be achieved when talent is met with tenacity. To see her now teaching others is the greatest reward an arts school could ask for.”
Inga, your LGAA family salutes you! We congratulate you on your Honours degree and thank you for being such a wonderful ambassador for the arts. We look forward to seeing the impact you will make in the lives of your students and the future of South African music.
Congratulations, Inga! Keep hitting those high notes.
